Regular dental checkups with x-rays allow our dentists to diagnose and correct any potential problems before they begin to both you. However, sometimes surgical treatments, such as tooth extractions or other procedures, become necessary. There are a number of reasons why our dentists may recommend removing your teeth – large cavities, orthodontic treatment (braces), and incoming wisdom teeth included. Gum disease and tooth decay may also necessitate the removal of a tooth from your mouth.
Despite regular brushing and flossing, gum disease and tooth disease can still show up. Sometimes your teeth cannot be saved through normal treatments, and extraction becomes necessary. Our dentists can perform most of the tooth extractions needed at our clinic, including tooth extractions for teenagers who need orthodontic treatment. However, for wisdom teeth extractions, we may refer you to an oral maxillofacial surgeon (OMS). On average, most wisdom teeth are fully erupted by the time an individual reaches 18-19 years of age.
